If you’ve ever had a best friend then you’ll know from the start what this book is all about. While not an avid reader of this author, I have read several of this author’s books and have never been disappointed. In fact I’ve even jotted down a sentence or two that were particularly meaningful.

This is the story of Kate and Tully, two young girls who meet as adolescents and continue their friendship through peaks and valleys over the course of more than three decades. It is the story of trust and betrayal. It is the story of how opposites attract and stay together.

Tully is a successful anchor-woman and Kate is a stay-at-home mom and while the threads that bind them together unravel a bit from time to time, they remain in touch through the years.

This is a good curl up and read on a rainy day book.

Hold Tight by Harlan Coben

This latest entry by an accomplished mystery author is timely. In this age of SPY-ware and GPS, we can go a long way toward monitoring the habits of our teenagers. There is much controversy over how far we should use technology to uncover the secrets of our children.

Several murders are committed and there is a connection but Coben keeps us guessing how the tangled web unravels until the end. Mix in the nosy tactics of an eleven year old and you have a good mystery.

If you are a fan of this author, do not miss this one.

Twenty Wishes by Debbie MacComber

This entry is a sequel to her “Blossom Street” series. It is the story of a group of widows who get together on a regular basis to party, share and commiserate about the hand life has dealt them. They decide to make a list of twenty wishes that they hope to attain. It is the story of how they accomplish the things they wish for and how fate steps in and changes their lives forever.

Yes, this is a romance author and I like this romance author. It is light reading for the most part and a fun read. It’s a good exercise that will take you away from the more dire diatribes of late.

The Center of Everything by Laura Moriarity

This story takes place in a small town in Kansas, the center of the United States. It is the story of Evelyn, daughter of a single mother, few friends, in the lower socioeconomic portion of society.

Her mother is outgoing and has a mediocre job in a convenience store. She makes poor choices and has to live with the results and so does Evelyn.

This is a story about good and bad and all the things that fall in between. It is Evelyn’s story as much as the other characters. Evelyn learns life lessons as we all do, through birth and death and unexpected happenings.

Evelyn is resilient and it pays off in the end.

Sunday’s at Tiffany’s by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet

So have you read Patterson’s previous non-mystery novels entitled Sam’s Letter to Jennifer and Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas? If so, then you must read this latest entry written by Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet.

Did you have an imaginary friend when you were little? Someone who would always listen to you, someone on whom you could depend through thick and thin, someone to tell jokes to, someone who helped you to become independent…..This book is all about an imaginary friend who disappears once his charge has grown up, never to appear again or so you thought.

It is a short book and take time to develop the characters so the reader feels as if she has known Jane her whole life. One finds oneself rooting for Jane when a dashed romance takes advantage of her “soft” side and when Jane finds herself dealing with unspeakable sadness.

If you enjoy reading Patterson’s more sentimental stories, then this is one you will not want to miss.
