Private by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro

Okay—all you James Patterson fans—get ready, get set & read!

This latest entry by the master was fast-moving and fascinating. I particularly liked the mystery surrounding the use of cell phones, although all three mysteries were good.

I know there are several Patterson fans out there who are disappointed in the author because they feel he is just selling his “name” and that the quality of the books being produced has lessened. I do not agree. I like the format of his books. Short chapters help this reader move right along with the story. While the mysteries themselves may not always be intense, they still keep this reader captivated.

Maxine Paetro has written several stories in the Murder Inc. series and I have liked each and every one. The premise of this story is Private. It is a private investigative company. As such they take on a variety of “jobs” which prove to be interesting. One is illegal gambling within the ranks of a national sports league. Another is the murder of Jack’s best friend’s wife and the third is the murders of schoolgirls.

I, for one, am grateful that Mr. Patterson, along with other authors, keeps cranking them out.

The Lion by Nelson DeMille

Another item by Long Island author Nelson DeMille. This is a fast-paced, thriller by another one of my favorite authors. John Corey returns along with his wife Kate. They, along with several other characters have been targeted by a terrorist known as “The Lion”.
The story line is well-thought out but a bit gruesome. In fact, if they ever make movie out of this one, I’ll probably keep my hands over my eyes for much of it.

I found this latest entry to be a bit of a departure from The Gate House and pleasingly so.
I like to be surprised and this story is full of them.
