Afraid to Die by Lisa Jackson

Selena Alvarez is back. Along with her partner, Detective Regan Pescoli, they are bent on trying to solve the mysterious disappearances of three local women. They have found abandoned vehicles but it appears that all three have vanished off the face of the earth. Along with the mysteries to be solved, Selena's long ago son appears on the scene. A baby, given up for adoption, he is in search of her residence when he is tackled by an old familiar partner from the past. A strange twist on murder, this mystery kept me guessing who the perpetrator was until the very end. Lisa Jackson fans will not be disappointed. Ladybookbug!

what doesn't kill you by Iris Johannsen

I would say I read most of this author's books. Many of them have thriller quality and really keep me interested. However, I must say that this latest entry did not motivate me at all. I found it to be sluggish and not up to my expectations of this author. I recently completed her trilogy of Eve, Quinn and Bonnie and found the last book not quite up to the first two. In the case of What Doesn't Kill You I just had to put the book down and move on to something else. Perhaps I'll pick it up again in the future. Ladybookbug!

When Wanderers Cease to Roam by Vivian Swift

While reading Publishers Weekly recently, I came across an article written by Nancy Pearl, librarian extraordinaire, in which she lists memoirs by people you ought to meet. I chose the above title merely because the setting is Long Island Sound. I was not disappointed and very much pleased with the read. Reading Ms. Swift's book is much like reading someone's diary. It is a delightful escape, ordered by the months of the year and interspersed with lovely watercolors throughout. She often mentions her cats, enjoying cups of tea and the various inhabitants of the small town where she has decided to settle. I took my time reading this book and was sorely disappointed when it came to an end. I hope the rest of the memoirs on Ms. Pearl's list give me the same satisfaction. Ladybookbug!
