Astrid & Veronika by Linda Olsson

This is a first for author Linda Olsson and one should not miss it.

It is the story of Veronika, a young writer who rents a small house on the outskirts of Stockholm one very harsh winter and Astrid, a bit of an eccentric who lives next door and is known in the small town as a witch.

It is also the story of two bruised souls who reach out to each other and start a friendship that begins the healing process within each woman. As their stories are unraveled, the reader glimpses what is behind each woman’s sorrow and we find ourselves wanting to envelope them with our love and concern.

Their story is humorous, serious, entertaining and worth remembering.

A gentle read for a summer’s night.

Storm Prey by John Sanford

They’re back! Virgil, Weather and Lucas and they’re all involved in yet another crime.

This crime takes place in the hospital where Weather works and she is a witness to one of the robbers. Virgil is responsible for her well being while Lucas investigates.

The crime starts at the hospital with a robbery but it doesn’t end there. Sandford takes the reader through a maze of criminal events and adds a character or two here and there.
This reader found it very interesting to see how all the events were connected, recognizing that it would be very difficult to do if one were in the midst of the crimes.

This is crime writing at it’s’ best. You won’t want to miss the 20th entry in the Prey series.

61 Hours by Lee Child

This time Jack Reacher gets stranded on a bus somewhere in South Dakota. Members of the police force in a small nearby town come to the rescue. However, they must return to the town asap because of a situation.

Jack becomes entwined in the machinations of the small town and ends up protecting a witness in a drug-related case.

Reading Lee Child’s novels are much like watching an episode of 24. You almost need handrails to hang on. If you are into thrillers- you’ll not want to miss Child’s latest entry.
He keeps you on your toes right to the very end and leaves you wondering how you got there.
