The Burnt House by Faye Kellerman

I don’t recall reading anything by this author in the past. The only reason I picked up her current entry is because it’s new. Her main character is Lt. Pete Decker of the LAPD. He’s appeared in previous books and he’s back again. The thing I like about this character is that in addition to being savvy about solving mysteries, he also has a sensitive side. This character trait is not always seen in tough cops.

The story opens with the crash of a small commuter plane into an apartment building in California. The grizzly discovery of a women’s body with a scrap of fabric adds to the mystery. In addition, the concerns of the parents of a flight attendant add to the patchwork of happenings in the story.

This is not a great mystery in my humble opinion but if you’re looking to try someone new, you may enjoy it.

If you have ever wondered about autism or been affected by it, you may find this story intriguing.

A crime has been committed in the woods behind an elementary school. One of the witnesses is an autistic child. As a dedicated single mother and astute local detective try to unravel what happened, the reader is exposed to the many unanswered questions about this condition.

This is a well-written novel and may indeed spur readers on to find out more about autism.

Wow! Talk about a mystery!

The author of this book is a seasoned trial lawyer. His attention to detail is admirable in this exciting new thriller.

Someone is after Peyton Shields, a first-year pediatric resident. A duplicated house key, some stolen lingerie, a mysterious “car accident”, a love triangle, and other incidents all culminate in a murder trial. Interspersed throughout this fascinating mystery is an ongoing online chat.

If you like a book that keeps you guessing until the very end, this one is just the ticket.

Mary Jane Clark is the author of ten novels. Having read them all, I can safely say I enjoy her books.

Her latest is all about a famous television morning show celebrity who is found dead in the swimming pool of her country estate. She has just recently been awarded the prestigious position of anchorwoman.

Eliza Blake, a colleague, along with three of her coworkers set out to unravel the mystery. Many people are considered as being the perpetrator of the crime, for the victim was not well-liked.

As the team of crime solvers gets closer to solving the murder, they become closer to being murdered themselves.

Up Close and Dangerous by Linda Howard

The writing in this book was okay. It flows along well. The disappointment for this reader came with the story’s predictability. By the fourth chapter I could foresee the ending.

Bailey Wingate, widow of Jim, is left to manage the vast inheritance of her less than kind step-children. An astute young woman, her marriage was strictly a business arrangement. En route to a white-water rafting vacation, the small plane she is traveling in crashes in Idaho.

If you are into light, very light reads, this one’s for you!
