The writing in this book was okay. It flows along well. The disappointment for this reader came with the story’s predictability. By the fourth chapter I could foresee the ending.

Bailey Wingate, widow of Jim, is left to manage the vast inheritance of her less than kind step-children. An astute young woman, her marriage was strictly a business arrangement. En route to a white-water rafting vacation, the small plane she is traveling in crashes in Idaho.

If you are into light, very light reads, this one’s for you!

Lisa Jackson, author fifteen previous novels, is at it again in her latest entitled Absolute Fear. Eve Renner has amnesia, stemming from a traumatic event. While she is in the process of recovering, she elects to determine what, exactly, led up to the shooting.

It means she must reconnect with the person she believes shot her. There is a series of tattooed numbers, a crumbling old asylum, a convent, and numerous secrets.

As her memories come back to her, she comes to a deadly revelation. One from which she may not escape.

If you like to be kept guessing as to who perpetrated the crime—you will enjoy this book.

The Overlook

Don't overlook this one. The Overlook, the latest entry by author Michael Connelly, brings LAPD detective Harry Bosch and ex-wife Rachel Walling back together again to solve a homicide.

The story opens with the discovery of a body on the overlook of Mulholland Drive. This leads to the discovery of a missing pig of radioactive substance. Enter a well-known high profile person of Middle Eastern heritage, an e-mail threatening the dead person, a drifter from Canada who witnessed the crime, a wife who was found bound and bruised, a gung-ho military style RAT team and you have a swiftly moving, intriguing story.

I like this author. He makes me feel as if I am inside Harry Bosch's head. I find myself rooting for Harry and wanting to look beyond the obvious and more closely scrutinize the subtleties of the crime. After all, this is what leads to the solving of the crime.
