The Sound of Glass by Karen White

Merritt Heyward is coping with the death of her husband two years ago.  She receives unexpected news that she is now the sole owner of a home in Beaufort, South Carolina.  Still coping with the loss of her husband and her own demons from her childhood, Merritt embarks on a journey of discovery.

She discovers that her husband kept many secrets from her which when revealed portray a troubled individual.  She also discovers that although life is certainly fraught with ups and downs, a person can continue to have the resilience that keeps them moving forward.

Living in a new home, mingling with a group of relatives she has never met before, Merritt begins to unravel the parts of her story that can ultimately lead to healing.

The story itself is nothing that hasn't been written about before and truth be told, I found it slow going but the author's ability to describe a setting invites you into the story and you feel as if you are part of it all.
