The Beach House by Jane Green

An eccentric attractive widow lives alone in a lovely old “cottage” on Nantucket. Her funds are running low and she is told by her financial manager that she will have to sell her home.
Nan cannot face loosing the house that holds so many memories so she decides to let out some of her five bedrooms. Some sprucing up with paint and new bed linens and she’s ready to post some flyers throughout her town and on the internet. Several people take her up on her offer and so begins another novel by this prolific author.
This is a gentle read, albeit a bit confusing at first. Ms. Green introduces us to the prospective renters in Nan’s house by devoting chapters covering the extent of their circumstances. The only problem is that the reader begins to understand the character and then we switch to another character and I found myself trying to recall who the author is talking about. Once the story focuses on the people in the house and their interaction with Nan, the story moves along quickly.
If you are looking for a quick, gentle read—this one’s for you!
