The Senator’s Wife by Sue Miller

When an author describes things in detail I appreciate it because I feel as if I am
right there in the story. By doing so, the reader is more apt to want to continue reading the story and that’s what it’s all about, is it not?

Delia is married to Tom who was a senator but is no longer. Their marital arrangement is unusual. Meri and Nathan are newlyweds and move in next door to Delia. An easy friendship develops between Meri and Delia. , Meri and she become quite close and yet Delia is very careful about what she reveals to Meri.

Everything is going along at a normal pace when Meri makes an unusual discovery while she is watering Delia’s plants one day.

As is usual in Ms. Miller’s stories, the reader is jolted by another occurrence which may leave one in contemplation of what has transpired.
