The Screwtape Letters by C.S.Lewis
If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that I seldom write about classics, even though I am known to revisit them from time to time. I do make an exception now and again and this is one of those exceptions. C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. (I know that list is endless). You may be familiar with his Chronicles of Narnia Series which I'd venture to guess is one of his most popular works. In my opinion, The Screwtape Letters" is another work to be savored and read again and again.
Basically, the text is comprised of a series of letters from "Uncle Screwtape" (a highly placed assistant to Our Father Below} to his nephew, Wormwood. In essence, the letters descibe in detail how it is that the devil tries to destroy humanity, one human at a time. It is at once comic but with serious undertones and is certainly a book open to discussion and revelation. Originally published in 1942, it is as pertinent today, if not more so, than it was when it was written 73 years ago. Few works can attest to that and this is one of them. It would be a benefit to read this book with someone else so that discussions about it could be generated more easily.
A good read!
