In the Middle of Somewhere by Sonja Yoerg

This title was featured on a kiosk in my local library. The display brought my attention to the book which I might have passed over on a bookshelf.

As you read this story, you will no doubt be reminded of a similar story penned by the author, Cheryl Strayed, several years ago. In any event, this short novel is a good read on its' own.

The main character has just celebrated her 30th birthday. She has also experienced a tragedy in her life of which no one close to her is aware . As a result she decides to embark on a three-week hike to clear her mind and help her deal with what occurred. Her boyfriend accompanies her on the trek. Although he admits hiking is not his style, he supports her and even though he experiences physical and emotional discomfort stays with her to complete the trip.

There is a short list of book discussion questions at the end of the story which offers a good basis for exploring the circumstances of the novel.
