The Girl in the Castle by Santa Montefiore
According to the inside flap on this title, this author has penned over twelve other novels. She is a first-time author for me and I have to say I enjoyed this book. It was not a quick read for me because at 538 pages it does not lend itself to being rushed through. In addition, the reader may find the characters compelling and want to mull over what they have just read. This novel is the first in a trilogy. There is a note that the author has finished the second book and is working on the third.
The story opens in the year 1910 in West Cork, Ireland. The main character is Kitty, the youngest of four daughters, born to Maud Deverill. The author goes to great lengths to develop each character in the story and the result is that the reader may feel connected to the story. The writing is such that you will probably want to read on to determine what happens to the characters. The storyline is not unlike the myriad of series currently produced by the BBC.
A good read!
